Connection problems in Le Mans Ultimate fall into two categories: not being able to connect to servers at all, and dropping connection during a session. Here's how to fix both.
Important: Connection issues are treated like a mechanical failure - they will not result in modified race results or SR adjustments. We understand this is frustrating, and the best protection is a stable wired connection.
Can't Connect to Servers
If you can launch the game but can't join any online sessions, work through these in order:
- Check your system clock. Go to Windows Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time and set both Date and Time Zone to automatic. An incorrect system clock is the most common cause of being unable to join servers.
-
Verify game files. Right-click Le Mans Ultimate in Steam > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files. If this doesn't resolve it, delete the
Installedfolder inside the LMU directory first, then verify again. -
Check Easy Anti-Cheat. LMU must be launched via Steam or
start_protected_game.exe. Launching the main executable directly bypasses EAC and will prevent you from joining online sessions. If EAC itself is corrupted, see how to reinstall Easy Anti-Cheat. - Check your firewall. Ensure Le Mans Ultimate and Easy Anti-Cheat have outbound access through Windows Firewall and any third-party firewall or antivirus. Add exceptions if needed.
- Check server status. If all of the above are clear, check the official Discord for any server outage announcements before continuing to troubleshoot.
Dropping Connection During a Session
Le Mans Ultimate has strict latency and packet loss tolerances to maintain a fair competitive environment. Intermittent drops are almost always a network quality issue rather than a server issue.
- Use a wired ethernet connection. Wi-Fi is the single most common cause of mid-race disconnections. Even a good Wi-Fi signal can have intermittent packet loss that causes drops.
- Update your network adapter firmware. Open Device Manager, find your network adapter, right-click > Update Driver. Several players have resolved persistent drop issues this way.
- Check your router's QoS settings. If other devices on your network are streaming or downloading heavily, they can starve your connection. QoS can prioritise gaming traffic.
-
Test your connection quality. Run a continuous ping test to a reliable server (
ping 8.8.8.8 -tin Command Prompt) during a session. Any packet loss or spikes above 50ms are problematic. - Try a different DNS. Switch to Google (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) DNS in your network adapter settings if your ISP's DNS is causing routing issues.
High Ping / Lag in Sessions
If you're seeing consistently high ping, closing bandwidth-heavy background applications (browsers, streaming services, cloud sync) before a session reduces network contention. If your ISP routes traffic inefficiently, a VPN can sometimes improve routing to game servers - though this varies by location and provider.
RaceControl Account Not Loading
Your RaceControl account is logged in automatically when you launch the game. If it isn't loading or the Online section appears greyed out:
- Confirm you've accepted the competition rules - this is required before online access is granted. Go to Profile > pencil icon and check for any pending acceptance prompts.
- Fully close and restart the game to re-establish the account connection.
- If your account is showing as suspended or restricted, contact RaceControl support.
Still Having Problems?
If you've worked through all standard options above and are still experiencing issues, submit a support ticket with your trace file (Steam\steamapps\common\Le Mans Ultimate\UserData\Log), a description of when drops occur, and the results of a ping test if you have one.
