As part of our ongoing efforts to improve online racing standards, we’ve introduced a new Driver Contact Badge system in version 1.2 on PC. This feature is designed to help you better understand who you’re racing with, encourage clean driving, and improve the overall online experience for everyone.
What Are Driver Contact Badges?
Driver Contact Badges are visual indicators assigned to players based on their contact ratio over the last 10 races. This system evaluates both the frequency and severity of on-track contact, and assigns a badge that is visible to others in your event.
Note: This is a separate system from the Safety Rank, although both use some similar data. They function independently to offer a broader view of a player’s racing behaviour.
Badge Levels
After your first 10 races (where you’ll display a Rookie badge), you will be assigned one of the following badges:
Good Driver - Demonstrates consistent, low-contact racing
Trusted Driver - An experienced racer with excellent on-track conduct
Warning - High contact ratio. Improvement needed to avoid penalties.
What Happens if I Get a Warning?
If your contact ratio remains high, you may receive an automatic ban from online play. Here’s how the system works:
Initial Warning - Gives you a chance to improve.
Automatic Ban - If no improvement is shown and contacts continue to get worse.
Probation Period - You return with a unique probation badge while being re-evaluated.
Progressive Penalties - Repeated bans increase in duration, and may eventually lead to permanent bans from online play.
Why Do Badges Matter?
Badges give you quick insight into the driving behavior of others around you. Whether you’re racing with a seasoned Trusted Driver or a brand new Rookie, badges can help set expectations and promote a more respectful racing environment.
We encourage experienced racers to give space to newcomers and help build a more welcoming sim racing community.
Why do I get banned with this system?
Because your average of contacts with players over 10 races is in the top 0.1% of players. A single race will not cause you to get banned as this will be filtered out.
Badges and Matchmaking
We are also testing matchmaking using badge levels, especially in beginner lobbies. At times, players will be matched first by badge, and then by Driver Rank, to experiment in improving race quality and create fairer, more competitive experiences.
Special and Future Badges
Our system is designed to support more badge types in future updates.
Currently, we also have special badges manually assigned to our team members, verified real-world drivers, and select content creators. These users can choose their badge from their profile page – but only if they maintain a Good or Trusted status.
